City College students have been a big part of our success in the last 18 months. Being able to bring on City College students as Tier One technicians has allowed us to build a really good team of technical talent that we didn’t have otherwise. Our Tier One technicians from City College are much more ready than other employees.

The relationship with City College has been great. The students work hard, and they like our work environment. What I like about the students coming through the City College program is that they’re more focused and more mature. I have had more success in the community college program than I have in four-year university programs.

City College students are hardworking—very dedicated people who want to put their best foot forward in the work environment. They’re able to elevate themselves to meet expectations of the workplace and also elevate others around them. City students offer diverse perspectives, backgrounds and experiences that just bring a richness to the work in our organization.

The connections between the United Airlines family and ÃÈ·µ¼º½ are long and strong. Many City College graduates from the Aircraft Maintenance Technician program start as entry-level aviation maintenance technicians or as utilities technicians. It’s a great pathway into what I like to call a ‘career for life’ that begins with experience at City College.

If I put an ad online for an assistant in a law firm, I will inevitably get 500 resumes, and they don’t really tell me anything. I have contacted the paralegal department at City College, which has been terrific — a really good place to find people who work out.

It’s great that City College wants to work together with employers. If there’s someone that’s working here who wants to move up to a more technical position, they can take automotive classes at night at City College. We are building a relationship with City College so they understand what we need from their graduates.

City College is part of the city just as we are—we are a good conduit for students to get employment and learn their craft. One student five years into the company is now a chef at one of our cafes. Another student is a chef at Google. City College is a stepping stone to get skills and experience and move on in your craft. You can learn as much as you can and then take that information and get started in your career.
