Thank you for your interest in ÃÈ·µ¼º½â€™s Cybersecurity Apprenticeship. Unfortunately, the program is currently on hiatus and will not accept any new apprentices for the foreseeable future. If you are interested in being added to the waitlist, please contact Steve Nelson, Employment and Training Specialist for the Technology Sector, at snelson@ccsf.edu. If you are an employer interested in taking on apprentices or hiring graduates of the program, please contact Zach Lam, Director of Apprenticeships & Academies, at zlam@ccsf.edu.
Students who would like to eventually join the program may be interested in some of the following ÃÈ·µ¼º½ courses and other resources that will better prepare them for work in the cybersecurity industry:
Most of the students who were previously admitted to the program knew some programming (such as python CS 10, CS 131B, CS 231). Also, many of the students did a lot of work at online hacking sites such as picoctf.org, hackthebox.com, tryhackme.com, portswigger.net, and the National Cyber League, which have free and/or pay-for versions.
Most of the students had also taken the more advanced cybersecurity courses at City College (CNIT 123, 124, 129s, 125, 126, 127, 128, 141, 152, and the competition team course, CNIT 140, when offered). The following four courses, CNIT 40; CS 160a or CNIT 102; CNIT 106 or CNIT 201c; and CNIT 120 are the original required prerequisites of the program, and these are also classes that you should take before embarking upon any of the higher numbered courses.
Many of the students who study cybersecurity begin their careers in Personal Computer (PC)/Helpdesk Tech Support jobs and then move into security as they get more and more familiar with the basics of computers, virtual machines, and networking. ÃÈ·µ¼º½ has pathways that start from the absolute beginning and take you through courses that help you prepare for basic IT certification exams, like CompTia A+, Net+, and Sec+.
If you would like to meet to talk more about this in detail, please reach out to Steve Nelson, Employment and Training Specialist for the Technology Sector, at snelson@ccsf.edu.
