About John Carlson
John Carlson (1951-2021) served as a beloved member of the ÃÈ·µ¼º½ Cinema Department faculty who taught Experimental Filmmaking and Cinematography and Lighting for many years. He was also a charming guy who won the hearts and minds of all of his students, many of whom became friends. The former Vice President of Monaco Lab, he also taught production classes at the Academy of Art University. A jovial and generous spirit, John was always tickled to share mind-expanding experimental cinema with new and seasoned students.
This $500 scholarship is made possible by generous support from his family to foster student filmmakers dedicated to making experimental film. As with all great teachers, John's work will live on through the work made by his students.
