It depends. Certain courses are required if you want to get a certificate or degree through ÃÈ·­µ¼º½. However, if that is not your goal, you can take any course you like provided that you meet the prerequisite(s) and/or co-requisites.

The Visual Media Design Department has seven computer labs stocked with Macintosh desktop computers. They have all the software and fonts you need to do your homework. Open Lab Hours, during which any student in a VMD class can use these computers, are frequent. In addition, both Macintosh and PC labs are available in Batmale Hall.

The first classes to consider are VMD 100 – Orientation to Visual Media Design, VMD 101 – Design Fundamentals and VMD 105 – Digital Skill for Visual Media. The Orientation course will help you explore your career interests, while the 101 and 105 classes introduce core concepts needed for the subsequent design and production courses. If you see a degree or certificate program that interests you, follow the suggested order of courses.

You will need to contact the instructor who teaches the course you wish to enroll in. The instructor will ask to see samples of your work as well as transcripts from your previous schools. If the instructor approves your enrollment, he or she will submit a form to Admissions and Records that will allow you to enroll in the class.

If you know you want to transfer, schedule a meeting with Patricia Chytrowski to discuss your course of study. Depending on what school you want to transfer to, your course sequence will vary. Many students choose to obtain their A.A. at City College, then transfer as a Junior. Be sure to talk to a Student Counselor about what general education classes you will need to take.
