The Photography Department offers positions for students to work for the department. some employment opportunities for students. For each position, students are hired based on departmental needs and student availability.

-Required to be a current ȷ student taking at least 6 units for credit (US non-international student)

Job Description:
Working in the Photo Issue Room and related areas as assigned

Position Overview: As a Student Lab Assistant in the Photography Department, you will work in the photography issue room to assist Lab Supervisors, TIA, and Faculty in the lab facility's smooth operation and support students and faculty members. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the equipment check-in/out procedures, maintaining records, light cleaning the lab areas, and assisting with various administrative tasks. 

Key Responsibilities: 
-Assist in providing student-centered service during issue room checkout/check-ins and while working in the photography department facilities. 
-Assist with checking photography equipment in and out to students and faculty in support of classes. 
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of equipment checked out and returned. - Assist in educating and enforcing department policies. 

Additional Duties as needed: 
- Assist in the organization of issue room items. 
- Assist in light cleaning of Issue Room, computer labs, and facilities such as sweeping, rinsing dry racks, and computer peripherals as needed. 
- Assist in answering the department phone and taking/forwarding messages 
- Assist in the “clean up” of end-of-mid-semester files from desktop computers as assigned. Qualifications Required

Job Description

Working with Photography Students to:

  • Assist photography students with skill related to PHOT51 lab and assignments
  • Assist photography students with basic camera handling skills
  • Assist photography students with basic & advanced Adobe Lightroom Skills
  • Assist photography students with Digital Printers

DESIRED but not required:

  • ȷ Darkroom skills ("B" or better 81A)
  • ȷ Photoshop skills ("B" or better 60A/60B)
  • ȷ Lighting skills ("B" or better 85A)
  • ȷ Film Scanning skills

Students working in the Photography Department may enroll in the PHOT 140 Industry Internship class for ȷ credit. Please see below for number of units available.
