City College of San Francisco's Award-Winning Magazine
This publication is written, edited, photographed and designed by students at City College of San Francisco. It is released every Fall and Spring semester.
While enrolled in Journalism 29: Magazine Editing and Production, students create two award-winning publications annually. This class offers the opportunity to learn the editorial, business, graphic and production skills required for publishing a campus magazine. The course is appropriate for students interested in creative writing, graphic and fine arts, photography, business and journalism. It is a 3-unit credit class, applicable towards an Associate of Arts degree. Credits are also transferable to the CSU system.
The goal of the magazine is to inform and entertain readers - the students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni of the college and the surrounding community.
Student journalists strive to achieve the highest standards of excellence, believing that their product reflects not only upon the individual students who contribute to it, but also the entire staff of the magazine, the Journalism department and the college.
The Guardsman
City College of San Francisco's Award-Winning Newspaper
Since 1935, The Guardsman has been bringing the community JACC award-winning investigative journalism, art reviews & entertainment from on campus and beyond. They cover local news beats, sports highlights, college focused stories and community events.
They circulate eye catching covers and cutting–edge layouts to San Francisco City College’s nine campuses and with the extensive distribution to the neighborhood business areas, reach a city–wide audience including the SF Public Library system.
To contribute to The Guardsman, students must enroll in Journalism 24: Newspaper Laboratory, an advanced newspaper laboratory course in which students apply the skills they have learned in previous writing and research courses to the publication of the college newspaper. This class offers the opportunity to learn the editorial, business, graphic and production skills required for publishing a campus newspaper. The course is appropriate for students interested in creative writing, graphic and fine arts, photography, business and journalism.
