City College of San Francisco (ȷ) Receives Accreditation Determination from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC)
San Francisco, CA – January 17, 2024
The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) Peer Review Team Report indicates that City College of San Francisco meets all Eligibility Requirements, Commission Policies, and 116 of the 119 relevant Accreditation Standards established by the commission related to instructional programs, student services, and college operations.
As stated in the report, the visiting team “was quite impressed with the College’s welcoming environment and passion for meeting the needs of students through their Guided Pathways and Student Equity and Achievement efforts.” Moreover, the visiting team recognized the College’s work in promoting academic quality, particularly through defining and analyzing student learning outcomes and through its curriculum development efforts, among other areas of focus. This underscores the institution's commitment to academic excellence and positive impact on the community.
However, the ACCJC has acted to issue a warning to City College of San Francisco, specific to the following:
The Commission requires the Governing Board consider the College’s long-range fiscal implications when making financial decisions in order to assure financial stability The Commission requires that the Governing Board act in a manner consistent with its policies and bylaws The Commission requires that the Governing Board allow the Chancellor to implement and administer Board policies without Board interference At this time, the College remains accredited and will have an opportunity to address the deficiencies by submitting a follow-up report to ACCJC in Spring 2025. A peer review team will conduct a subsequent site visit.
"We appreciate the evaluation conducted by the Accrediting Commission stating that City College meets all Eligibility Requirements, Commission Policies, and 116 of the 119 accreditation standards," said Alan Wong, President of the Board of Trustees. "City College remains accredited and open to serve. We take the identified areas of concern seriously and are committed to promptly meeting all accreditation standards. City College of San Francisco remains steadfast in its mission to provide quality education and foster a supportive learning environment for our students."
In adhering to the Commission requirements, the action letter and Visiting Team Report are available on the College’s Accreditation web page.
