Dear ÃÈ·µ¼º½ Colleagues:

As I have shared in several spaces over the last few months, one of my top priorities while serving as interim chancellor is the continued stabilization of our finances (it’s bucket #3 in the list of my Five Buckets). This includes addressing our structural budget deficit and utilizing more effective long-term financial planning processes.

From my perspective, while transparency is essential in our budgeting, visibility is more critical at this point.  By this, I mean ensuring insight into the structure of our budget, our sources of revenue and the risks and dependencies on those sources, understanding our expense categories and the impact of those expenses on our ability to operate the college, and more broadly, how we determine the allocation of our resources.

To lend visibility to our budget development process, we will be holding a series of four budget workshops over the next several months.  These workshops will provide a forum for informing, understanding and pursuing clarity.  Each workshop is an initial convening with the Board of Trustees, with all members of the College and community invited to participate.  There will also be at least one repeat of each workshop (same presentation and discussion format) to allow for additional participation across the College.  Below is the schedule of workshops and focus areas for each meeting with the Board; the additional repeat sessions will be announced next week.  The Board sessions will be recorded and available for viewing after each meeting.
