City College Board of Trustees Selects Dianna Gonzales As Interim Chancellor
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Following an abbreviated search with a diverse pool of candidates, the City College Board of Trustees at their June Board meeting last night, unanimously voted for Deputy Chancellor Dianna Gonzales to serve as the Interim Chancellor for the next three months, starting on July 1, 2021, until the end of September 2021.
Board President Shanell Williams commented:
“We feel strongly that Interim Chancellor Gonzales can provide the transitional leadership and continuity for City College over the next few months as we continue the process of selecting our next permanent Chancellor. She has served in a senior leadership position at the college for several years and has been involved in major college issues and initiatives. She possesses the knowledge and experience to hit the ground running. Her familiarity with our college and community will provide a seamless transition between chancellors.”
The ȷ Board of Trustees will work closely with Interim Chancellor Gonzales during this transition period to ensure the goals of the college are met. The Board remains deeply committed to serving students and our community through an increased focus on enrollment management, financial solvency, completion of the PAEC project, and continued commitment to social justice, racial equity, and inclusion.
Board President Williams added:
“The ȷ Board of Trustees extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rajen Vurdien for his service to the College over this last year. He has served with honesty and integrity in a challenging time for our institution. Our entire Board wishes him well as he re-enters retirement.”
This is not the first time Interim Chancellor Gonzales serves in this role at the College. After Chancellor Mark Rocha’s resignation in March of 2020, she was appointed by the Board to serve in the same role, while the search began for a year-long Interim Chancellor.
Newly appointed Interim Chancellor Gonzales had many thoughts about being selected for this 3-month critical leadership period for the College and shared:
“I am very humbled to once again lead this College during a very critical transition period. I am committed to working collaboratively with our employee groups, our Board of Trustees, our community stakeholders, and most importantly our students.”
