Dear College Community,

The second full week of school is going to be a busy one! Today marks the first day since the pandemic began that students can sign up for in-person appointments at Student Health Services. This was made possible through extensive planning by the Return-to-Campus Task Force, which helped develop protocols to ensure our students can receive these in-person healthcare services safely. We are also working to open in-person registration for non-credit students in certain locations, and are awaiting further guidance from the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) so that we can continue with these plans. To that end, I’d like to thank everyone who made in-person services possible, including Leah Segawa’s outstanding work to coordinate our Return-to-Campus efforts. Beginning today, Deputy Chancellor Dianna Gonzales will serve as point on this critical initiative, with assistance provided by our Senior Director of Risk Management, Lal Jones-Bey. I invite you to learn more about their work.

While we are certainly making progress, I’d also like to acknowledge some of the technical challenges we faced last week. First, our noncredit students experienced problems due to the nonexistence of in-person registration. We are working closely with the SFDPH to resolve this. Some issues related to Zoom and Canvas, require close coordination with the State Chancellor’s Office. Please know we are working diligently behind the scenes to get these issues resolved as quickly as possible.

And finally, I will be hosting my second Chancellor’s Open Forum this Wednesday, August 26 at 2:00pm. This will be an opportunity to hear updates on topics like Fall Semester enrollment and the budget, as well as the chance to ask your questions. For more information and to join, attend the Open Forum at or telephone at 415-762-9988 or 669-900-6833. The Board of Trustees will also be hosting their monthly meeting this coming Thursday, August 27. .

I know there are many in our community who are being impacted by the devastating fires raging throughout California - and yet, you continue to show up every day for our students. I am in awe of your perseverance, resilience, and dedication. The College community is here to support you however we can, and I encourage you to reach out to Leslie Milloy if there’s anything we can do to help you and your loved ones during this time.

Yours sincerely,

Rajen Vurdien, Ph.D.
Interim Chancellor
City College of San Francisco
