City College of San Francisco Rounds Out First National Cannabis Program with New All-Star Faculty Lineup and Professional Certification Program

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Fresh off the heels of launching the first Cannabis Associate of Arts Degree in the nation, City College of San Francisco is now offering an industry-specific program that could set the bar for state and national industry qualification standards. Beginning this week, students can enroll in classes that will lead to a “badge” in one of four areas - manufacturing, public education, social equity, and business and finance - which will be recognized by the Bay Area cannabis industry as an indicator of expertise in the field.

And beginning this coming Spring, the College will offer cannabis coursework taught by an all-star cast of culinary professionals, including: Netflix-featured Chef Amanda Jackson; Chef Mennlay Aggrey, who literally wrote the book on Weed Butter; and the James Beard-nominated Chef Miguel Trinidad.

“We are so excited to be offering this one-of-a-kind opportunity for both students and teachers,” says Jennifer Dawgert-Carlin, chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences at City College of San Francisco. “Everyone who is teaching in our program has been incubating incredible ideas, and just waiting for someone to provide them with an avenue to share them.”

Take, for example, Chef Amanda Jackson who worked her way up from dishwasher to Chef de Cuisine while attending culinary school, and now specializes in creating luxe dining experiences for celebrities. She will teach a ȷ class this spring that explores the historical roots – and intersectionality – of southern cooking and marijuana, both of which are deeply rooted in Black culture.

“When working to build out this program, we looked for experts who embraced the idea of social equity, and would incorporate broader teachings related to the cultural and political history of marijuana in the United States,” Dawgert-Carlin continued. “One cannot study cannabis without the painful history that comes with it, including the mass incarceration of people of color.”

Those interested from across the country can begin enrolling in the courses immediately. Available courses include Cannabis 101 – An Introduction to Cannabis; Cannabis and Social Equity; and METRC, Compliance, and the Cannabis Industry. Courses are offered once or twice weekly in the evenings to accommodate the schedules of working professionals. To learn more and enroll, please visit the .
