She/her/hers/y'all
Alisa Messer knew well before she was hired to teach English at ÃÈ·µ¼º½ in 2001 that it would be her dream job. From the time she discovered her passion for teaching writing, she wanted to return to her hometown and teach at its sole community college; when she did, ÃÈ·µ¼º½'s students did not disappoint—and they continue to be her primary motivation and inspiration.
In her time teaching a range of English classes at ÃÈ·µ¼º½, Alisa has partnered with the Women’s and Gender Studies Department as well as Labor and Community Studies, and much more: she has trained writing tutors; helped write curriculum for transgender students and allies; participated in innovative programs for Latinx students; helped train colleagues in working with diverse students; been a union leader; and organized with many at the college and in the broader community to defend City College and to make it free again for San Franciscans.
