Swords to Plowshares Values:
Mission | Vision | Philosophy |
---|---|---|
War causes wounds and suffering that last beyond the battlefield. Swords to Plowshares’ mission is to heal the wounds of war, to restore dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency to all veterans in need, and to prevent and end homelessness and poverty among veterans. |
All veterans will have access to the care and services they need to rebuild their lives. | Our model of care is based on the philosophy that the obstacles veterans face — including homelessness, unemployment and disability — are interrelated and require an integrated network of support. |
Swords to Plowshares Legal Pro Bono Program
Swords to Plowshares is proud to provide free legal services to veterans seeking access to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits and assistance with military discharge upgrade applications through the Department of Defense.
SWORDS TO PLOWSHARES LEGAL SERVICES UNIT
The Legal Services Unit at Swords to Plowshares helps veterans access VA disability benefits and healthcare, including those with less than honorable discharges. Our attorneys represent clients free of charge in VA disability benefits matters and military discharge upgrades. (Please note that we do not assist with VA education benefits issues.)
Our services are limited to the following:
- Helping San Francisco residents with VA disability benefits claims, as well as VA eligibility issues for those with less-than-honorable discharges, and
- Helping veterans who live in San Francisco and the surrounding counties with military discharge upgrade matters.
We help veterans regardless of discharge status, the era of service, or length of service. Please note - we cannot guarantee representation or ongoing assistance.
COVID 19 Update: Swords’ Legal Unit is no longer conducting in-person client meetings, but we continue to meet with veterans via phone and video conference.
