City College of San Francisco Student and Alumni Teams Transformed Campus Spaces in Design Competition

San Francisco, California (December 10, 2024) – City College of San Francisco (ȷ) students put their design skills to the test in a unique competition that saw them permanently transform underutilized spaces on the Ocean campus. We are thrilled to announce that three amazing teams were recognized for their excellence and creativity.

Architecture, Interior Design, and Construction Management majors unveiled their innovative designs for the Multi-Use Building study and gathering areas. These student and alumni teams, mentored by professional architects, faculty, and industry professionals, have used their creativity and problem-solving skills to breathe new life into the spaces with hand-crafted furniture, decorations, art pieces, paint, and other exciting new features.

This is the second annual academic contest at ȷ, and the winning designs will become permanent fixtures within the MUB, benefiting the college community for years to come. Four professional architects and two ȷ administrators judged the entries, awarding prizes in three categories: Most Innovative, Most Inspirational, and Best Overall.

Most Innovative Award: Infinite Design
Brandon Baird, J'tier Favors, Shyam Suresh

Most Inspirational Award: DB4
Charlie Miles, Luis-Miguel Bermudez Sr., Wenna Luu, Zachary Van Zant

Best Overall Award: Emanon Studio
Andrea Rodriguez, Ethan Herrero, Ozlem Korkmaz, Valerie La

The competition fostered teamwork and provided students with valuable real-world experience, allowing them to contribute a lasting positive impact to their college.

Cathy Chang, Senior Management Assistant in the Outreach and Recruitment Department said: “This year’s contest highlighted cross-functional teams’ collaborations. Each contestant met their team members for the first time at this contest. Most of them also work full-time and some are parents. It is so important to showcase and celebrate our students’ inspirational stories along with their passion, hard work, academic excellence, and creative talents. We honor their commitment!”
